Facts

Aachen. 352 aircraft- 9 Lancasters Lost (2.6%). An accurate raid which caused widespread damage to the centre of Aachen including a complete break-down of the air-raid defences in the city. Significant infrastructural damage was caused including roads, railways and electrical power. 1542 deaths on the ground. Reason for Loss Believed to have fallen victim to a night-fighter. Crashed at Beerse, Antwerp, Belgium
