Outward-bound, the aircraft was shot down by the night fighter crew of Oberfeldwebel Reinhard Kollak & Unteroffizier Hans Hermann of the 7./NJG 4, who were flying Bf 110 3C+AR from Juvincourt airfield in France.
On board were Squadron Leader James Beavis (28 years old, pilot), Sgt Allan Wise (22 years old, second pilot), F/Sgt Norman Spark (21 years old, observer), Sgt Henry D. Hurst and Sgt Johnstone Stewart (both 29 years old and radio operator), and the 25-year-old tail gunner, P/O Raymond Embelin. All six rest in a collective grave in the Coutisse cemetery.
