During the afternoon of 5 October, eight Typhoons from No. 3 Squadron, led by Squadron Leader Ron Hawkins, and escorted by eight Typhoons from Squadron No. 198, led by Squadron Leader Brian DFC, were to attack Sinclair's oil refinery near Terdonk. low height.
Squadron Leader Hawkins crashed his Typhoon JP733 'A' through some trees, on the territory of Doornzele. His plane exploded in a fireball.
