Takeoff at 23:52 hrs for a bombing operation against the Rothe Erde railway station at Aachen in Germany.
Outward-bound, the aircraft was shot down by night fighter pilot Unteroffizier Karl Grosser of the 11./NJG 1, who was flying a Bf 110 G-4 from St Trond (Sint-Truiden) airfield.
There were no survivors amongst the crew. They rest in the Courtrai {St-Jean} Communal Cemetery & Oudenaarde Communal Cemetery.


Photograph of an RAF firing party at the burial of what is believed to be the crew of Lancaster ND985. It belonged to No. 626 Squadron and during a mission to Aachen, was shot down by a German night fighter.
