Escape report IS9 / WEA / MB / 5418/1494.
The aircraft took off at 10:46 pm from Grimsby for a photography mission and, either hit by a German fighter, or following a mechanical deficiency, its left wing was suddenly in flames. The plane crashes and three men die: P / Off pilot Walter James Shaw, radio-gunner Sgt James Ensor and P / Off gunner Gordon Howard Williams, 19. All three are buried in the Schoonselhof cemetery in Wilrijk near Antwerp.
