During a mission of recce, the squadron was attacked by many ennemy aircraft and P/O Livijns was hit and fell in sea out of Ostende.
Declared Missing, the pilot is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial panel n°70.
Georges Livijns was born at Anzin (France) on January 15th, 1920. At the outbreak of
War, Livijns was a pupil at the Flying School of the Aé Mil. After being transferred toFrance and Morocco, he escaped to Great Britain where he arrived on 5 August 1940.
Enlisted to the RAFVR on 14 August 1940, Georges was sent to Training Command:
EFTS (2 November 1940), SFTS (15 February 1941), OTU (1 June 1941) achieving hisformation.
After being posted to 234 Sqn (17 July 1941) he went to 350 Sqn where hearrived on 18 November 1941. On the 1st June 1942, the Sqn performed a "Target
Cover" for Bomber-Hurricanes to Bruges. The Sqn encountered a big formation of
FW-190. During the melee, Livijns flying as Blue 4 (Spitfire Mk V - BL822) was shot
down near Ostend, MIA.
