Each year, Belgium remembers its veterans on the occasion of Veterans Day. This moment of remembrance pays tribute to all the soldiers who died in humanitarian and peace operations. The date was chosen in 1998 in honour of the ten Belgian soldiers murdered in Kigali on 7 April 1994.
At the invitation of Ludivine Dedonder, Minister of Defense and Admiral Michel Hofman, King’s Aide de Camp, Chief of Defense, Wilfred Burie, President went to the Congress Column in Brussels where the commemoration ceremony was held.
In the presence of the King’s Representative and the authorities present, the names of all military personnel who died abroad on peacekeeping missions were mentioned. More than 250 of them gave their lives for Peace.
We laid a wreath in their memory after the authorities laid theirs.
